The flattened hat-shaped lid with a knob in the shape of a lotus bud, the broad and curved shoulder, the tapered neck of this vessel is characteristically Korean, though inspired by Chinese prototypes in theme and shape.

Four sides of the knob are adorned with four petals, the lid with plum and bamboo, four parts of the mouth with twisted arabesque patterns. The part where the mouth and the shoulder meet is surrounded with two lines and the lower part also with a line within which two magpies, bamboo and chrysanthemum are pictorially painted.

The painting which covers the whole surface of the jar is filled with such rustic features as two magpies chatting on a blossomed plum tree and a spray of chrysanthemums. The simple grass-floral pattern is an example frequently found in white porcelain between the late 17th century and the early 18th century.

The glaze is grayish white with a light blue tinge.
