Koryo dynasty, 12th century

This elegant round jar with a thin, everted lip, was potted with deft hands.

It is especially treasured for its rare and impressive lotus scroll design, skillfully outlined in semi-relief and further adorned with finely engraved veins.

The pale green glaze, with tiny air bubbles and slight crackle, has collected along the incisions resulting in a thick green shade.

The flat base was also glazed, but was scraped off to attach six large, reddish-brown spurs of sand and clay.
