Born in Nanjing in 1963. he graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 1989. Since his debut in 1990，he made consecutive Award- winning features [Mama](1990)，[Beijing Bastards](1992) [The Square](1994)，[Sons](1995) and [Behind the Forbidden City](1996). He is also an active MTV producer and director.
