About Musa
Touted as the most expensive Korean film ever produced, Musa is a sweeping real-life epic about an official envoy from Koryo (ancient Korea) struggling to stay alive in war-torn China. The film is set in 1375 when the Yuan dynasty collapses after a 100-year reign against the insurgent Ming. As the Ming dynasty solidifies power pushing the remaining Yuan armies to the north and west, Koryo sends a delegation of diplomats to shore up their strained relations with the new government. Upon arrival the lead diplomat is thrown in jail and the rest are exiled to the dusty hinterland for spying. There, the party is ambushed by Yuan soldiers. The survivors are led by General Choi Jung and a bodyguard slave of another fallen general, Yeo-sol. After facing all sorts of adversities, the group make it to a remote country inn where they learn that the beautiful Ming princess Furong (played by Zhang Ziyi of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon fame) has been kidnapped. When Yeo-sol gets abducted by the same band of Yuan thugs, Choi Jung resolves to free them both. Fleeing from the same Yuan army, the Koryo warriors with Furong in tow learn that the Yuan has burned all ferryboats in the Yellow River valley. When they happen upon a group of Ming refugees, Furong promises them supplies and safe passage home if they escort the refugees to the Mud Castle upriver. The castle, however, proves to be in ruins and the Yuan are closing in. This film was screened at the 2001 Toronto Film Festival. ~ Jonathan Crow, All Movie Guide
A.D. 1375 (457th year of the Koryo Dynasty and 8th of the Myung Dynasty). It was the first year of reign under King Young-woo, after the assassination of King Gong-Min, who attempted to reform the Koryo Dynasty. To make matters worse, ambassadors from Myung are assassinated by the orders of the Koryo Dynasty.

In order to explain the incident to Myung and announce King Young-Woo's new reign over Koryo, Koryo has to keep sending its ambassadors to Nanjing, the capital city of Myung. When Son Chun-Yong and his company are walking along the Yangtze river after being exiled to Nanjing, they are attacked by the Hoe tribe at Wal A Chun in Sum Suh Sung.

The Hoe tribe, a minority group from Sum Su Sung and Islamic in religion, forms guerilla troops and resists against its foes in hopes of building its own nation through these attacks, the envoys from Myung are annihilated, leaving only 20 survivors from Koryo. The remaining people decide to return to Koryo, under the leadership of head officer Choi Jung. As they begin to cross the wastelands of Sum Su Sung...
Being the most expensive Korean film ever made, "MUSA-The Warrior" is a sweeping real-life epic written and directed by Kim Sung-su and starred by Jung Woo-sung, Joo Jin-mo, Ahn Sung-ki and Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi.

Loyalty, honor, and fairness are integral parts of being a genuine Musa, a Korean word standing for "Warrior". A moderately interesting swordfest set in China, 1375, where the Ming dynasty has just overthrown the Yuan. Korea wants good relations with the Mings, but its hapless delegation, led by inept young general Choi Jung, has just been thrown out of the Ming court. Choi Jung then gets the bright idea of rescuing a captured Ming princess from the Yuan and using her to curry favour with the new dynasty.
