At the end of 1930s. as violence and oppression of Japanese imperialism gets on the highest point, farmers, who suffer from poverty due to delivery of rice by Japanese and bad harvest, desire for new world without a single exception. One day a cream seller from a city appears to a small village of a deep mountain. Chun-Ho and his wife, who dream an exodus vaguely, dispose of their household goods and follow the cream seller dreaming new life in a city. However the cream seller runs away with Chun-Ho's money and they become wanderers. Due to long and harsh wandering life, they lose even their little baby. Though they get in a village, it is also hard to live because of Mr. Lee who has saved his properties cringing to Japanese and conducts bad doings to villagers. Gambling is prevailing in pubs while some villages women sell their bodies to Mr. Lee to live on. Although Chun-Ho and his wife take their base of living with difficulties and make all efforts to manage new life, Mr. Lee, the landowner of the village, make them in trouble harboring evil heart on Chun-Ho's wife. Chun-Ho nags and scolds his wife to get a big share in gamble. As her husband's mistreatment reaches to extremes, as cost of giving her body to Mr. Lee, Chun-Ho's wife........
